Elizabeth Taylor married 8 times. In each ceremony, she was emphatic that this was the man of her dreams. Friends and guests were always taken aback by her over-the-top declarations of undying love.

We see the same thing at the end of every year from preachers and prophets. They routinely say that the New Year will be one of widespread blessing and favor in America. And just as routinely, they fall apart like a Taylor marriage.

Let’s remember the predictions of late 2019 about 2020. Celebrity prophets and preachers universally predicted a year of untold favor and prosperity for the Church. Within weeks, the government locked down the churches. It was the polar opposite of their predictions.

It makes you wonder if Satan had a hand in this.

It makes you wonder if Satan had a hand in this. Did he get them to prophesy lies so the Church would be weak and unprepared? Did their prophecies, like the “let’s all just eat cake” prophesies of a certain false prophet, lull the Church into letting down her guard?

It’s that time of year again. Once again you will find them in your mailbox. You will see them on social media, promising nothing but good times ahead. Why do they keep doing this?

The answer is money. It is a fundraising ploy. After all, does anyone in America want to give money to a losing team?

Trusting these latest predictions will bring even more disaster.

Am I overreacting? Am I raising an issue that is harmless? No I am not. Trusting these latest predictions will bring even more disaster.

I believe the Holy Spirit is warning you not to be fooled again. Trusting in predictions outside of the Bible will eat up valuable time, cost you more than you want to pay, and can even shipwreck your soul.

This time it will be your fault if you are fooled. And God will hold you accountable.

It is time to shift the blame away from false ministers and prophets, to false audiences.

Matthew 24:4 says, “And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you.” It is now your responsibility not to be fooled. The people you love need you to be a Christian, someone who is preparing both themselves and you for the storms ahead.

Whatever candy-coated sugar high you get from listening to zany voices is not worth the misery, disappointment, and destruction that will follow.

False voices can say all the right things. Remember the demon possessed girl followed that followed Paul.

She cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour (Acts 16:17-18).

We lost because we didn’t vote, we didn’t register others to vote, and we remained apathetic about election corruption.

I do not believe that Trump alone can save America. But I do believe that Obama er I mean Biden, can destroy America.

This false audience is clearly laid out in these verses: 2 Timothy 4:3-4, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth and be turned aside to fables.”

Notice that every time it says they or their, it is talking about the audience, not the false teacher.

God is going to do many amazing things in 2024. Most of all, it will be a year of massive soul winning. That is what Mario Murillo Ministries is gearing up for.

How do we keep from being fooled? Answer these questions:

1. Have you checked your own soul? Being fooled begins with you, not the false minister. Ask yourself why you are vulnerable to false words? Most often it is because you are in an emotional crisis and need a quick answer. Parasites target Christians who seek instant relief. King Saul’s demise was that he could not wait for God’s answer (see I Samuel 13).

2. Does their “word” include a call for repentance and obedience? Flattery and entitlement ooze from those who make false prophecies. They remove the preconditions that are clearly set forth in the Bible. Statements like, “God’s got this” are the opposite of, “If my people.” Even when 2 Chronicles 20:15 said, “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.” It still said, “Tomorrow, go down against them” in verse 16.

3. What they said did not come to pass. This one sounds obvious, but these false voices have invented exotic excuses for the predictions that did not come true.

-They say that some prophecies can take years to come to pass. But that does not apply when “prophets” set a specific date. One said that on August 20th, 2020, Trump would be back in the White House. Another said that Nancy Pelosi would be dead before November 8, 2022. Those are false prophecies ergo false prophets.

These false voices have invented exotic excuses.

-They say that the Church’s unbelief can keep a prophecy from coming to pass. Over and over again, the Bible shows that statement to be false. One such example is Luke 1:20, “But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.” What Gabriel prophesied was going to come to pass, did so, in spite of the unbelief of Zacharias.

-And finally, false prophets use the verse that states “we prophesy in part” to make it okay to miss it ‘once in a while.’ They use 1 Corinthians 13:9 says, “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part”, but here is what that means:

Any revelation from God to the Church through someone with the gift of prophecy only reveals a small window on the enormous picture of all there is to be told about Who God is and what He will accomplish. Just because we prophesy ‘in part’ does not mean the ‘part’ we prophesy can be false.

The bottom line is this: Why would you ever again listen to someone who got it so wrong before? That is the definition of deception—self-deception.

The old saying goes, “If you fool me once, shame on you. If you fool me twice, shame on me.”

2024 is not going to be easy. It will test the strong Christian. Imagine what it will do to the gullible Christian? There may have been a time when chasing shortcuts and special words was less harmful. But that time is over. The times are now to dangerous for games.

Dig into the Bible. Sit under a valid preacher. And draw closer to Jesus than you ever have in your life. Do these things and I can safely predict that you will thrive in the New Year not matter what is coming.
