The Blue Pot
It was the late 1970s, I was 21 years old and a newly licensed real estate agent.
My very first listing was a home that was owned by Christians. These Christians were not like most church going people I knew, they prayed, they talked about Jesus, their home was full of Bible quotes, they homeschooled their children, they were always happy, and the peace within their home was tangible. Jesus was very Real to them, He was their Guide and Advisor.
They told me that their move to Houston was directed by the Lord and now that were being lead to move back to California. They interviewed a few Realtors and said that God chose me to sell their home. Honestly, I had never known anyone that openly loved Jesus like this family.
On closing day, they gave me a beautiful ivy in a blue pot that had been in their home. The ivy lived about 20 years, but the blue pot has always been with me, somewhere in my office or home, it is now stored in the barn.
Around 5 years after that closing, I asked Jesus into my heart, their prayers were answered! That family, their witness and prayers had an eternal impact on my life.
That blue pot is a sweet reminder of God’s Hand on every aspect of my life and career, from the very first closing until my recent retirement.
God chose me, He loves using pots and vessels.
Jeremiah 31:3, John 15:16, 2 Timothy 2:21: if anyone cleans himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.
