Priceless Treasures

There are priceless treasures in my home, small reminders of love and friendship, purposely placed in strategic rooms, on walls and on the shelves that hold my very favorite things.   These tokens of love continue to bring joy and a smile on every remembrance of the person that thoughtfully blessed me.

At an estate sale, these precious items might not have any monetary value, certainly not what they are worth, to me:

There is that coffee cup, a gift from the kids, a painting of my home from my brother-in-law,  a needlepoint perfectly stitched by my sister-in-law, a small statue of a worshipper from a sister in the Lord, a figurine my mother painted when she was pregnant with my sister, a piece of pottery crafted by a dear friend, a book with the pages folded to spell Grandmother, perfectly welded and painted horseshoes, a Precious Moment with a sweet story that only I know, a little rose rock, the tiny koala bear that I found hidden on a lamp when my brother and Heidi went home to Australia, a hand blown glass long stem rose, a beautiful glass container, one of the last birthday gifts I received from Debbie, before she went to Heaven.  These treasures remind me of the mutual love that is shared between the giver and this receiver, a snapshot in time, a memory of a special day, of time spent together, of the thought behind the gift.

Truthfully, I am not overly sentimental, I find the greatest joy in the presence of loved ones, rarely in a present.

We have a God that gives good gifts, He delights in good and perfect gifts. God uses these tokens of love to remind me I am loved by friends and family and that He loves me, too.

These treasures teach me that receiving with joy blesses the giver, as well as God, who gives good and perfect gifts.

James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
